Terence Goodlace quits Gold Fields

Posted: Wed, 30 Jul 2008

[miningmx.com] -- TERENCE Goodlace has resigned as chief operating officer and executive director from Gold Fields with effect from the end of September, the company said.

"My resignation was prompted entirely by very private and personal considerations," Goodlace said in a statement.

Gold Fields is splitting Goodlace's position into two parts. Vishnu Pillay, head of South African operations, will remain in that position. Glenn Baldwin, who heads up the Australian and West African operations, will take up the position of vice president for international operations, which now includes the Cerro Corona mine in Peru.

Goodlace was appointed to the role of chief operating officer in May 2008. He was head of international operations before being reassigned to head up the South African portfolio after the death of Brendan Walker in a car crash in December 2006.

He had been with Gold Fields since 1998.

There has been a thinning of top Gold Fields management, with CEO Ian Cockerill and John Munro, vice president of corporate development, leaving the company at the end of April. Chief financial officer Nick Holland was appointed as chief executive.
