Pamodzi could add 238,000 oz gold to output

[miningmx.com] -- PAMODZI GOLD could add another 238,000 oz of gold to its production over 12 years if a transaction to acquire dumps from Australia’s Mintails in South Africa goes ahead, Pamodzi said on Thursday.

Junior JSE-listed gold miner Pamodzi has a binding memorandum of understanding with ASX-listed Mintails which could see the two companies swapping tailings dumps.

Mintails has the option to take over Pamodzi’s 105 million tonnes of uranium and gold-bearing tailings contained in the three Grootvlei dumps near the ERGO gold processing plant Mintails bought from AngloGold Ashanti. Mintails unveiled the deal in late November.

The quantity of uranium and gold is not known, but once reserves are proved up in the next 12 months they will be independently verified by a competent person. The amount of uranium in the dumps will set the value of the transaction.

Mintails will pay R17 per pound of uranium over four million pounds. It appears Mintails will settle its obligations through the issue of shares.

Mintails will also cede to Pamodzi its rights over 7.4 million tonnes of rock contained in five dumps running at an estimated in situ grade of a gram per tonne. A rough calculation shows there to be 7,400 kg of gold or 238,000 oz of gold.

Pamodzi will process 50,000 tonnes per month of rock at its East Rand plant, giving it 148 months of feed.

Company officials were not immediately available to comment on the transactions.
