Exxaro to decide zinc restart next week

[miningmx.com] — South African diversified miner Exxaro will decide early next week when to restart operations at its Zincor refinery after a blast at the plant killed three workers and injured 12 others, the company said on Friday.

The company said it was making plans to meet customers’ zinc requirements over the short term. It also said that the cause of the accident would be known within four weeks.

“Zincor teams are restoring electricity supply which was damaged in the incident and by early next week management expect to make a decision on when to re-start production,” it said in a statement.

Zincor’s daily zinc metal production capacity is about 300 tonnes, it added.
