Gold Fields’ KDC East ends 23-day strike

[miningmx.com] – WORKERS at Gold Fields’ KDC East mine in
Carletonville on Johannesburg’s West Rand returned to work, ending a 23-day strike,
the company said in an announcement.

All three of Gold Fields’ operating mines are now back in production. The resumption
of work also means that strike action in the South African gold industry is over, at
least for now.

Gold Fields had fired 8,100 workers at the mine on October 23 in terms of its rights to
dismiss employees involved in illegal strike action.

“However, the majority of them were reinstated to their previous positions,’ Gold
Fields said. “All employees are also eligible for benefits under the Chamber of Mines
settlement agreement that was concluded on October 25.’
