[miningmx.com] --THE National Union of Mineworkers announced that it would embark on a strike next week Monday following a stalemate in wage talks with Teba Ltd.
The NUM is demanding a 12.5% wage increase, down from the original demand of 13.5%, while the company is offering 6%.
The labour union is further demanding a 3% service increment for each completed year.
Teba is a service organisation primarily responsible for the recruitment of mineworkers for the South African mining industry.
NUM members will be embarking on a build-up programme at all Teba operations culminating on a full-blown strike action.
"We have given Teba Limited sufficient time to consider its position and clearly they have not made up their mind. We have now decided to mobilise over a thousand workers for a complete shut down of its operations," said Tseliso Lesibe,
the NUM's negotiator at Teba Limited.
