Glencore owed $200m by Zambia

[miningmx.com] – The Zambian copper business of Glencore, Mopani Copper Mines, is owed $200m by the southern African country, said Bloomberg News citing a Glencore spokesman.

Zambia’s tax authorities have withheld more than $600m from companies that did not comply with its rules to provide papers proving importation of metals from countries to whom the metals were sold.

Glencore has argued, however, that it sells its metal to traders and cannot, therefore, tell which countries its metals end up in.
