Northam to build second furnace for R500m

[miningmx.com] – NORTHAM Platinum had appointed Tenova Pyromet to build a second platinum group metal furnace estimated to cost R500m, said BDLive.

The existing 15MW furnace has capacity for concentrate from its nearby Zondereinde mine, its new Booysendal mine and third-party concentrate from Pallinghurst Resources’ Sedibelo mine, the newspaper said.

The new 10MW furnace will be brought into production within two years, and will handle concentrate from expanded Booysendal production. It will also handle material from the Everest mine Northam has bought from Aquarius Platinum.
