Barclays-backed firm to build Botswana mine

[miningmx.com] – KHOEMACAUE Copper Mining is to build a copper mine in Botswana’s Kalahari copperbelt next year after winning government approval for the project, said Reuters which cited the firm’s regional manager.

The mine is expected to produce 3.6 million tonnes of ore per year, which would be refined to produce 50,000 tonnes of copper concentrate, said Johannes Tsimako.

Khoemacaue is owned by Cupric Canyon Capital, a private equity firm backed by a unit of Barclays, said Reuters.
