Botswana wants SA to expedite nickel transfer

[miningmx.com] – BOTSWANA’S mines minister has written to his South African counterpart in an effort to speed up the transfer of mineral rights at Nkomati Nickel to the state-owned Botswana Copper, said BDLive.

Citing Onkokame Kitso Mokalia, BDLive said that he had asked South African mines minister, Mosebenzi Zwane to approve the Section 11 transfer of mineral rights which would give Botswana Copper control over the resource it bought last year.

Botswana Copper unveiled a transaction in October for the $337m purchase of Norilsk Nickel’s Southern African investments in 50% of Nkomati Nickel it shared with African Rainbow Minerals in South Africa and its 85% stake in Tati Nickel in Botswana, where the government of that country is the junior partner, said BDLive.
