Zwane hails Impala, NUM agreement

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African mines minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, welcomed an agreement in which mineworkers dismissed by Impala Platinum during a strike in 2012 were re-employed at the platinum firm’s Rustenburg mine.

“We are encouraged that the parties were able to find each other after what has been over two years of challenging negotiations between them,” Zwane said. The agreement follows two years of negotiations with the National Union of Mineworkers.

The employees were asked to leave Impala’s facilities amid concerns over safety after the strike action broke out. The employees were now being re-integrated back into the workforce, said Zwane.
