AngloGold to cut 400 jobs in Ghana

[miningmx.com] – ANGLOGOLD Ashanti is to cut 400 jobs at its Obusai mine in Ghana, said Bloomberg News quoting the gold producer’s senior vice president in charge of the mine, Mark Morcombe.

“The current cost structure is not appropriate; we are transitioning to a more mechanized operation,’ Morcombe told Bloomberg News. “The transition is for a three-year period, which will result in more efficient operations.’

Obuasi employs 4,800 people, said Bloomberg News.
