Gecamines seeking $160m to fire staff

[miningmx.com] – GECAMINES, the state-owned base metals miner in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) needed $160m to fire about half of its employees, equal to about 6,000 people, said Bloomberg News.

“We don’t have a date yet when we will start this process. We are having some good discussions with people whom we think can finance this,’ Ahmed Kalej Nkand told Bloomberg News.
