Zim CoM rejects state-run mineral sales

[miningmx.com] – ZIMBABWE’s Chamber of Mines rejected a government proposal that the state auction mineral deposits and control the sales of minerals saying the document was “gritty and confrontational”.

Citing Alex Mhembere, Chamber of Mines president, Bloomberg News said that while the chamber saw itself as partner to the Zimbabwean government, its strategy of state control was at odds with recently adopted market-aligned national policies.

“This policy on minerals marketing is premised on the notion that the private sector cannot be trusted,’ the Chamber of Mines said. “The world over producers have the right to market their own minerals based on an approved marketing contract.’
