[miningmx.com] – UK-listed mining firms were lifted on Tuesday by stronger-than-expected earnings from Alcoa as well as positive comments about the future for demand.
“With US aluminium producer Alcoa providing a strong start to the US earnings season by beating forecasts, and the misfortunes of Greece seemingly appeased, risk appetite is back with a vengeance,’ Brenda Kelly, senior market strategist at IG, told the Daily Telegraph.
Anglo American gained 3% to £12.82p, but it was mining giant Vedanta Resources that led the pack on the blue-chip index, up 8.5% to £10.95, boosted further after it was upgraded by Goldman Sachs “on stock-specific catalysts’, the newspaper said.
