AMCU refusal creates parallel wage talks

[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) said it would not engage in gold industry wage arbitration with the Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) – a development that had thrown a spanner in the works, said City Press.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and other unions declared a deadlock with the Chamber of Mines last week regarding gold industry wage talks and would now hand the matter over to the CCMA. AMCU said the development was premature.

“We have noted and we respect the pulling out of other unions that are party to the bargaining process,” AMCU said.

“We have not exhausted our mandate and we would therefore not pull out as a PR exercise,’ it said.

This would now lead to two parallel wage talks with AMCU on one side and the other unions involved in CCMA talks.
