[miningmx.com] -- The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Thursday warned of an impending war with world number three platinum producer Lonmin over wage increases.
The NUM is demanding a 25% wage increment from Lonmin while the company has offered "a mere pittance" of 5%.
After what it described as a "slow start" to wage negotiations earlier this week, the trade union the company is arguing that the trade union must dramatically reduce its demand.
"We want to resolve everything through negotiations. We are positive about negotiations and as such we call on the company to show positivity in their actions," said Eric Gcilitshana, the NUM's chief negotiator at Lonmin.
"They are still miles away from our 25% and we want to conclude a wage agreement without further ado," he added. The next round of negotiations will take place next Tuesday.
