[miningmx.com] -- Impala Platinum, the world's second biggest platinum producer, said on Thursday it would seek further talks with a South African union that plans to start an indefinite strike at the company next week.
South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said on Wednesday it had rejected the latest wage deal offered by Impala Platinum (Implats), and would mobilise its members in that company to strike, starting on Monday or Tuesday.
Bob Gilmour, a spokesman for Implats, said the company would seek to meet the unions to prevent the industrial action.
"We don't want a strike. It's not the ideal situation, loss of production is likely," he told Reuters.
"We are open to further discussions and hopefully we can resolve this. There are no talks scheduled, but we undoubtedly will try to meet the union."
