BHP to raise iron ore output in 2015

[miningmx.com] – BHP Billiton, the world’s third largest iron ore exporter, estimated an increase in production from its Western Australian mines, including output attributable to joint venture partners, to 245 million tons (mt) in its 2015 financial year, said Bloomberg News citing the group’s fourth quarter production figures published today.

“We will remain focused on value over volume as we prioritize our brownfield development options and consider the next phase of portfolio simplification,’ BHP Billiton CEO, Andrew Mackenzie, said today in the statement.

Iron ore output was 56.6mt in the three months ended June 30, from 47.7mt a year earlier. The group is pressing ahead with production increases despite a 17% decline in the iron ore price in the last year.
