Zuma leads compromise in Lesotho crisis

[miningmx.com] – LESOTHO, which it thought to have suffered a coup last week, was edging towards a compromise deal led by South African president Jacob Zuma, said BDLive.

The newspaper said Zuma has persuaded Thomas Thabane, Lesotho’s prime minister, to lift the suspension on that country’s parliament – one of the grievances behind an alleged army coup and which forced Thabane to flee the country.

However, South African officials ruled out military action preferring instead diplomacy. “We have no military plans at all. The priority is to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy,’ said Nelson Kgwete of the Department of International Relations and Co-operation.

Lesotho is home to significant reserves of diamonds which has attracted investments from Gem Diamonds, Lucara Diamond Corporation, Namakwa Diamonds and Firestone Diamonds.
