Zim diamonds seized in compensation row

[miningmx.com] – AUTHORITIES in Belgium seized $45m worth of diamonds mined in Zimbabwe following a court order giving the right for a South African company to be compensated for the loss of mineral rights.

Bloomberg News reported that the diamonds were from entities in which the Zimbabwean government had a stake.

Revenue from the diamonds would be could be used to compensate Amari Holdings, a South African firm, which lost the right to mine platinum in Zimbabwe in 2010. The matter was subject to court adjudication in Zambia today (September 19).
