Friedland in ‘impasse’ with SA’s DMR

[miningmx.com] – ROBERT Friedland’s Ivanhoe Mines was in an ‘impasse’ with South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources over social and labour plans for a $1.6bn platinum mine called Platreef, said Bloomberg News.

In a letter Bloomberg said it had seen, the DMR described Ivanhoe’s plans to have the building of the mine benefit local communities as “sketchy” and that they “did not offer much” – a position that has delayed granting of a mining permit to Ivanhoe.

Ivanhoe CEO, Lars-Eric Johansson, said in an October 9 response to the DMR that: “We believe that each and every formal request by your department to date has been accommodated,’ said Bloomberg News.
