Second silo crack discovered at Majuba

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African union Solidarity had discovered crack at a second coal silo at Eskom’s Majuba power said BDLive citing the union. The claims were denied by the power utility.

Head of the energy industry at Solidarity Deon Reyneke said he had alerted Eskom to the possibility that the silo could collapse. On November 2, a silo collapsed at Majuba which caused a day of national load-shedding.

It was brought to our attention that silo 30 at Majuba has a 2m crack and the same structural problems (are) present at this silo as was the case prior to the collapse of silo 20,” said Reynecke in an email to Eskom’s group generation MD Thava Govender.
