[miningmx.com] – ESKOM was not due to run out of cash by end-January, said BDlive citing comments from the power utility’s finance director, Tsolofelo Molefe, who added, however, there was a need to be prudent.
“We never said we were running out of cash,” said told BDLive refuting a news report last week which Molefe added had misquoted Eskom. “What we did say is that we won’t be irresponsible and spend money on diesel,” she said.
“We are definitely not running out of cash but we have to be prudent. If we allocate further funds to diesel then we compromise other programmes of Eskom.” Eskom is spending about R2bn a month on diesel to power the open cycle gas turbines.
