Fourth renewable IPP winning bids unveiled

[miningmx.com] – SOUTH African energy minister, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, unveiled a number of renewable energy initiatives aimed at speeding up new energy capacity, said BDLive citing the minister’s comments at a Department of Energy event.

The initiatives included shortening the procurement process and providing a bid ‘re-opener’ to previously unsuccessful contenders for the government’s renewable independent power producer (IPP) programme.

Results of the fourth window of the renewable IPP programme were also announced in which thirteen IPPs will contribute 1,121MW to the grid and taking total renewable energy bids commissioned to 5,243MW. Renewable energy is regarded as the quickest way to build additional capacity, said BDLive.
