Molefe Eskom role may be permanent: Brown

[miningmx.com] – THE appointment of Brian Molefe as acting CEO of Eskom could be made into a permanent one, said BDLive citing public enteprises minister, Lynne Brown – a view that the publication said surprised Molefe.

“What I need is a full-time CE who can do the job from the get-go,” Brown told BDLive. “I need someone with a turnaround plan and skill. I need a full-time CE that has experience in turning around a major state entity.” BDLive cited Brown as saying that Molefe would be at Eskom for at least a year.

Molefe, however, seemed less sure of his tenure at the utility which has endured its worst capacity downtime yet with, at one point last week, a third of its generating power disabled. “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there,” said Molefe on the nature of his appointment at Eskom. “My most immediate priority is to stop or minimise the load shedding.”

Asked whether a space would be made for suspended Eskom CEO, Tshediso Matona, should he emerge vindicated from a three-month internal investigation into Eskom’s affairs, Brown said: “Brian will be here and we’ll find a way for Tshediso to work with him; we’ll give him (Mr Matona) some other title or something.
