Nhleko quits Anglo to focus on SA business

[miningmx.com] – Phuthuma Nhleko, whose company Pembani Group recently merged with Shanduka, has resigned from the board of Anglo American, the UK group announced on November 27.

John Parker, chairman of Anglo American, said he would miss Nhleko’s contribution but “fully” understood his reasons for stepping down. Anglo said the Nhleko wanted to “concentrate on his business interests in South Africa”.

Miningmx reported in May that Nhleko had declined to attend a board meeting of Anglo American in December 2014 citing a “conflict of interests”. Whilst this may be normal business practice, there has also been speculation that Pembani Group could be a buyer of Anglo’s non-core South African coal assets.
