AngloGold suspends search for Colombia partner

[miningmx.com] – ANGLOGOLD Ashanti had suspended its search for an exploration partner in Colombia, said BDLive citing the comments of the gold firm’s CEO, Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan.

Speaking at the Mining Indaba conference, Venkatakrishnan said: “Colombia is a highly prospective region for us, but current market conditions do not lend themselves to conclude a partnership at this stage, so we are focused on reducing the spend while we move the project up the value curve”.

The Obuasi mine, which has been put on care and maintenance after making heavy losses for a number of years was the focus. The mine was “top of our to-do list,” Venkatakrishnan added. A proposed joint venture with Randgold Resources at the mine was called off last year.
