Ford Ranger Montana: Luxury bakkie
The limited edition Ford Ranger Montana arrives on the local scene this month, specifically designed to meet local demands.
Available in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations it also comes in the choice of Double Cab or Super Cab format, the latter featuring an extended single cab with greater space and usability.
The Ranger Super Cab sports a Dual Rear Access System (RAS), where a second door is introduced to the cab. This allows the driver to keep their seat in place while opening up the rear access panel. This panel is hinged (almost like a double door) which allows either the driver or passenger easy access to the storage area behind the seats.
Powered by Fordís 2.5-litre, 12-valve, turbocharged diesel motor, the 2499cc engine develops a maximum power output of 80kW at 3500rpm and produces a torque peak of 257Nm at 2000rpm. Beyond the power capabilities, the engine boasts such features as automatic glow plugs, an air-to-air intercooler and balance shafts to reduce engine vibration and noise.
But while the mill may not be new, the Ranger comes with distinguishing characteristics such as Montana decals, the tonneau cover featuring a screen-printed Montana logo and the exterior stainless steel components that come as standard. The nudge bar, sports bar, side steps and rear step bumper are all finished in stainless steel, while alloy rims and chrome finished scuff plates complete the exterior makeover.
The 4x2 Super Cab Montana models also benefit from the addition of 245/75R15 tyres.
Inside the standard black leather seats are offset by red stitching, and all models feature such modcons as air-conditioning, electric windows in the front and rear, electric exterior mirrors, central locking, lockable glovebox and radio/CD.
Additional convenience features include a lights-on warning buzzer and 12V-power point located at the rear of the loadbox.
A tilt adjustable steering wheel with collapsible steering column increases safety, as do side door beams, one-piece door pressing and inertia seatbelts.
All Montana models sport a diff-lock as a standard feature, as well as independent, double wishbone, torsion bar front suspension and semi-elliptical leaf springs at the rear. At both the front and at the rear, are gas pressurised hydraulic shock absorbers.
Service intervals for the Ranger Montana 2500 Turbo Diesel are every 10†000km with a three-year/100†000km warranty, as well as a three-year Roadside Assistance program included in the overall package.
A complimentary off-road training course is provided by the Ford Ranger Experience.
