Sam is a big man and can do big things - Bobby Godsell, AngloGold In an interview on Radio 2000 @ 18:20 on Tuesday, 13 February 2007 [miningmx.com] -- SAM Jonah found the world "full of opportunity" and could not be restricted to the board of AngloGold Ashanti, said the South African gold company's CEO, Bobby Godsell. Speaking on the Moneyweb Power Hour, Godsell said he regretted not being able to keep Jonah at the company. "He's still my friend," Godsell said. This was after an announcement today confirming the resignation of Jonah as non-executive chairman of the AngloGold Ashanti board. Jonah presided over the merger of Ashanti Goldfields with AngloGold Ashanti in 2003. "Sam arrived in South Africa and found the world full of opportunity. He's an entrepreneur and what's happened in the board room has reflected that," said Godsell. "Sam is a big man and will do big things for the continent. It was always going to be difficult to restrict him to the board room and I regret not being able to do that," said Godsell. Jonah serves on more than a few boards of listed public companies including Moto Goldmines and Equinox Minerals. Commenting on AngloGold Ashanti's new financial year, Godsell said the forecast for 200,000 oz higher gold production year-on-year was more modest than the group would have hoped. This was owing to a pit wall failure at the group's Geita mine in Tanzania, and seismicity at one of its South African gold mines.
