Orion lifts Prieska Project resource, submits mining right application

JOHANNESBURG-listed base metals exploration company, Orion Minerals, unveiled a total mineral resource for its Prieska Project in South Africa’s Northern Cape province of some 1.13 million tonnes (Mt) of zinc and 360,000 tonnes of copper after incorporating resources contained in its Vardocube Prospecting Right.

Vardocube adds a maiden mineral resource of 5.2Mt consisting of 253,000 tonnes of zinc and 67,000 tonnes of copper. The company has also submitted a Mining Right application submitted to convert Prospecting Right to a Mining Right as well as an Environmental Authorisation application to the South African government for approval.

“The addition of the Vardocube Prospecting Right has included an important higher-grade extension to the Prieska Deep Sulphide deposit,” said Erroll Smart, MD and CEO of Orion Minerals in a statement to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

“We are confident that the application of the exploration techniques that were successful in extending the northern end of the deposit on Repli will again deliver significant extensions on this southern strike extension, which is also open on dip and strike,” he said.
