[miningmx.com] -- Uranium One, the Canadian uranium producer which is developing the Dominion Mine in South Africa, reported a first quarter net loss of $114.8m for the March quarter, down from a $7.97m profit previously, said I-Net Bridge citing a company announcement.

Uranium One sold only 283,300 pounds of uranium during the first quarter of 2008 compared to 605,200 pounds in the first quarter of 2007, which represents a 53% fall in sales, said I-Net Bridge.

However, management was positive: "At our Dominion Project in South Africa, we continued to make progress with new mining areas becoming available, which will pave the way for improved grades and higher production of underground ore as the year progresses," said Jean Nortier, acting CEO of Uranium One.
