AngloGold

[miningmx.com] -- AngloGold Ashanti, the world's No. 3 gold producer, said on Thursday it had halted blasting at a mine in South Africa after a worker went mising at the operation last weekend, Reuters reported.

Despite a search at its Great Noligwa Mine, rescue teams had not yet found the employee, and blasting will not resume until the search is called off or the worker is found, AngloGold said.

"Blasting at the mine has been suspended to ensure the safety of rescue operations," AngloGold said.

The worker failed to return to surface after carrying out a standard shaft clearance procedure on Saturday, and a mine-wide search had been under way since then, the group said.

Great Nolingwa is located close to the town of Orkney in the Free State province. Production at the mine declined by 32 percent to 330,000 ounces in 2008.
