Posted: Tue, 12 Sep 2006 [miningmx.com] -- NEWMONT Mining's Ghanaian unit might produce half as much gold as forecast this year owing to power rationing in the west African country, said Bloomberg News. "We'd been forecasting upwards of 200,000 ounces by year-end and we will certainly not reach that target,'' reported Bloomberg News citing Newmont spokesperson, Mawuena Dumor. The company's Ahafo mine, which poured its first gold in July, may produce between 70,000 and 100,000 ounces less gold by the end of 2006 than the 200,000 ounces previously forecast, Bloomberg News said.
