Tata Posted: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 [miningmx.com] -- THE Tata group is in talks with India's National Aluminium Co. (Nalco) about the possibility of developing a $3bn aluminium smelter in South Africa. Bloomberg reported C.R. Pradhan chairman of Nalco said: "We are looking for a partner and talking to several companies including Tata's African unit." Just how soon any development might get off the ground is debatable as Pradhan told Bloomberg that the project would start as soon as talks with government had ensured a power supply for the plant and given the shortage of power in South Africa that might not be so easy to secure.
