[miningmx.com] -- Gold Fields will resume normal mining operations at its South Deep mine on Thursday morning, the company said on Monday.

Gold Fields said in a statement mining operations will resume after an assesment of winding ropes at the Twin Shaft complex following a May 1 accident in which nine contract workers were killed.

"At a meeting at the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) in Johannesburg today with mine management and trade unions, the Chief Inspector of Mines agreed that the conditions of a Section 54 order had been met and the mine could now recommence mining operations," Gold Fields said
