[miningmx.com] -- XTRATA'S first quarter nickel production dropped 15% knocked by lower grades, maintenance shut downs and bad weather while copper production grew.

The diversified miner said nickel production was 13,847 tonnes in the quarter. Copper production, which Reuters said is the largest contributor to the group's operating profit, rose 2% in the three months to 219,978 tonnes.
