African Minerals Posted: Wed, 07 May 2008 [miningmx.com] -- AFRICAN Minerals, and Aim listed exploration company headed by Roy Pitchford, said has entered a memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Sierra Leone where the company has a number of mining prospects. As part of the agreement African Minerals will undertake an engineering study to upgrade the deep water port at Pepel, if the company's two potential iron ore projects are developed the ore would be transported through Pepel. The company also intends to hire engineering consultants to complete a study examining the feasibility of upgrading the existing railway between the Pepel and Marampa, the site of one of the iron ore prospects, from narrow gauge to standard gauge. Subject to the results of these studies African Minerals said it would upgrade the port and railway line. It also agreed the port and the railway would be made available "at commercial rates to other users including mining companies and general cargo and passenger transporters".
