Colliery will pollute Vaal River water

[miningmx.com] – A PROPOSAL to develop a coal colliery on the banks of South Africa’s Vaal River has been criticised by Rand Water which said the mine would hamper the supply of water to millions of South Africans.

TimesLive, an online publication, cited Rand Water Services as saying it would oppose the development of the Panfontein Colliery which is planned to supply Eskom’s Lethabo power station.

The mine will have a negative impact on the water network system and pump station, TimesLive said citing Rand Water spokesman Justice Mohale.
