Glencore, Merafe sign wage pact

[miningmx.com] – GLENCORE and Merafe Resources signed a wage pact with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa ending a strike at the firms’ ferrochrome operations underway since September, said Bloomberg News.

“There’s a process of returning today and tomorrow [December 1 and 2],’ Stephen Nhlapo, sector co-ordinator for the labor group, told Bloomberg News. The agreement was signed on November 28.

The ferrochrome operations, which are jointly owned by Glencore and its empowerment partner, Merafe, are near the platinum belt in South Africa, where a five-month strike shut the world’s biggest producers of the precious metal this year, said Bloomberg.
