AMCU formally reject gold wage offer

[miningmx.com] – THE Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) today formally rejected a final wage offer, said the Chamber of Mines which is representing the gold producers in union negotiations.

“We are clearly disappointed that AMCU has not accepted our offers,” said Elize Strydom, lead negotiator at the chamber. “Whilst we are willing to continue to engage, we must reiterate that the quantum of our offer is final,” she said.

AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold and Sibanye Gold said they would increase cash and pledged to pay R12,500 a month for entry level workers in 2018 in the third year of a final offer made on July 30.

Despite AMCU’s rejection of the offer, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), UASA and Solidarity indicated “… firmly that they wanted to engage further,” said Strydom.
The gold producers will meet with unions again on August 7.
