[miningmx.com] – ANGLO American Platinum (Amplats) had about 215,000 ounces of platinum in stockpiles with which to supply customers, said Bloomberg News citing the comments of the platinum firm’s CEO, Chris Griffith.
“We certainly have the ability to continue for a while longer and a good while longer,’ said Griffith. “Even if we could not continue to supply our customers from production, we would do it through other methods, and if that means buying in volume we would do so,’ he said.
Griffith was commenting at a press briefing last week regarding the effects of a strike called by the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union (AMCU) which headed into its tenth week on March 27.
Amplats is operating at about 60% of capacity.
