Miners pay facing fundamental restructure

[miningmx.com] – LABOUR wages ought to be restructured so that employees in the mining sector could receive greater pay provided they were more productive, said BDLive citing a report by JP Morgan Cazenove.

The report said that demands for a R12,500 per month salary by the Association of Mineworkers & Construction Union had been “psychologically entrenched” and now that the workers’ “aspiration genie” was out of the bottle it could not be wished away.

“We foresee ongoing pressure for an unaffordable structural shift in wages and conditions of service for many years to come,” the report said.
