Govt to open SA’s energy future to private sector investment as unveils tender plans

THE Department of Minerals and Energy (DMRE) will issue a request for information (RFI) for demand and supply side proposals to enlist the help of the private sector to help alleviate South Africa’s current acute shortage of electricity generating capacity.

Gwede Mantashe, minerals and energy minister, made the announcement on Friday at a briefing to launch the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2019, which sketches the country’s intended least-cost energy generation mix to 2030. It was published in the Government Gazette today (Friday).
