Kibo says Tanzania “ready to consider” Mbeya mining licence

THE government of Tanzania was “ready to consider” an application for a Special Mining Licence (SML) from Kibo Mining, a London- and Johannesburg-listed coal to energy development group building the Mbeya Coal-to-Power project in the East African country.

“This latest development in relation to finalising the SML for the mining component of the MCPP is most welcome as we now have a clearly defined procedure to follow,” said Louis Coetzee, CEO of Kibo Mining.

He added that the company was also in the final stages of a mining licence application for its Mabesekwa property in Botswana, also a coal-to-energy development. “We are optimistic that both licences shall be approved expeditiously although it should be noted that following submission the progress of the process is not within Kibo’s control,” said Coetzee.
