Lonmin strike over

[miningmx.com] — Striking miners at Lonmin’s Marikana platinum mine
have accepted a company offer for an 11% to 22% overall pay increase, the group said on Wednesday.

News agency Sapa quoted worker leader Zolisa Bodlani as saying that rock
drill operators would now get R11,078 a month before deductions, production team
leaders R13,022 and operators R9,883. Workers would receive a further once-off
bonus of R2,000.

Lonmin said the increases would be effective from October 1 and included a previously agreed 9% to 10% rise for these employees, also due to come into effect in October.

“It also addresses issues of promotion for some categories of workers as well as other allowances,” the company said.
