KENMARE Resources said it could not yet confirm reports that its long-running Implementation Agreement with the Mozambican government had been finalised, as it had received no official communication from the authorities.

The agreement covers processing and export activities at Kenmare’s Moma titanium minerals mine in northern Mozambique, including certain rights and concessions. Mining operations themselves are governed separately and are not affected by the renewal process.

Kenmare said it remained committed to reaching a near-term conclusion and would update the market once it received formal confirmation.

In a stock exchange announcement on Tuesday, the company said the original agreement had expired on December 21, 2024, but the government had previously confirmed that Kenmare’s existing rights and benefits remain in force while negotiations continue.

The latest statement follows comments last week by Kenmare MD Tom Hickey, who said the company believed it was “pretty much at the stage where we have a final position” on the agreement, although no official notification had then been received.

Hickey said concluding the agreement would put Moma on a firm footing for the next 20 years of operations.

Moma is currently moving from the Namalope ore zone to Nataka, which contains about 70% of the mine’s mineral resources and is expected to support production for decades.

Kenmare produces ilmenite, zircon and rutile at Moma.
