[miningmx.com] — The Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) will
convene a task team to look into the challenges facing beleaguered platinum miners,
with a view to put in place a rescue and sustainability plan for the sector.
In an announcement released on Monday, the DMR said Shabangu met with producers
and MIGDETT principals to have a “frank and open discussion’.
“As a result of the meeting, all parties agreed on a process to address current
challenges facing the platinum sector with a view of putting in place a short and
medium to long-term plan,’ read a DMR statement.
“The department will convene a task team that will lead the effort and its first meeting
will be held [soon] with very short time frames to report back to the broader MIGDETT
principals meeting.’
