Katanga appoints full time CEO

[miningmx.com] — KATANGA Mining, which is digging for copper in the Democratic Republic of Congo, said it had appointed John Ross as its permanent CEO, effective from January 2010.

Ross is currently COO of Katanga and was identified as “an outstanding candidate” by the board, the company said in a statement today.

Ross will assume his position from Steven Isaacs who was interim CEO of Katanga and whose resignation is effective from January 4. Isaacs will remain a non-executive director of the company.

Isaacs oversaw the completion of Katanga’s $250m rights offering, the amendment of its Kamoto Copper Company Joint Venture Agreement with La Generale des Carrieres et des Mines, the implementation of cost cutting initiatives since the beginning of 2009 and the acceleration of the ramp-up of Katanga’s project, it said.

“Steven has played a key role in the growth of the Ccompany and we look forward to his continuing contribution as a Katanga director,” said Hugh Stoyell, Katanga chairman of the Board.
