De Beers strike starts

[miningmx.com] — THE National Union of Mineworkers’ members at diamond producer De Beers Consolidated Mines started a strike on Friday after wage talks failed, a union spokesperson said.

The union wants a 15% rise in wages, while De Beers is offering 7.5% and a once off payment of R2,500.

“As this point it time it’s too early to say how many workers are on strike, we will know later today,” said Lesiba Seshoka.

Unlisted De Beers is 45% owned by mining firm Anglo American
