De Beers, Num sign deal to end strike

[miningmx.com] — DIAMOND producer De Beers, 45% owned by Anglo American , said on Thursday it had signed a two-year wage deal with the National Union of Mineworkers, ending a 14-day strike.

The mining firm said artisans and more skilled employees would receive an 8% rise in wages, while salaries of entry-level employees would go up by 10%.

The company said in a statement it aimed to meet its yearly production targets despite the strike.

The deal will be backdated to May 2011. In 2012, increases will be at a level determined by inflation plus 2%.
